The 1332 volunteers at the 2014 inaugural Alaska Mission of Mercy (AKMOM) addressed the most urgent dental needs of 1589 underserved residents of South Central Alaska in two days at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage. Community volunteers side by side with dental profession volunteers, provided free dental treatment valued at $1,156,650, while enjoying camaraderie and fellowship that comes with a shared mission of service.

An association of dentists, staff and other volunteers in Virginia in 2003, organized and carried out what was to become known as a Mission of Mercy, or MOM. Their goal was to provide free dental care to local residents who could not otherwise afford or receive care.
