Volunteers prepare for Alaska Mission of Mercy
By KTVA CBS 11 News 6:28 PM April 10, 2014
ANCHORAGE –Thousands of Alaskans in need of dental care may be able to get it for free if they’re willing to wait in line.
The Dena’ina Center was in the process of transforming into a massive dental clinic Thursday. Beginning Friday, it will host the largest humanitarian project in state history — the Alaska Mission of Mercy. More than 1,500 volunteers will treat up to 2,000 people over the course of the two-day event. Care is given on a first-come, first-served basis, and a line of people began forming in front of the convention center a full day before the event .
Who We Are
Thirteen years ago in Virginia, an association of dentists, staff and other volunteers organized and carried out what was to become known as a Mission of Mercy, or MOM. Their goal was to provide free dental care to local residents who could not otherwise afford or receive care.
